Thrum Mittens
Thrum
mittens
origin from New Foundland and Labrador. Slubs or thrums of carded but
unspun fleece were tucked at regular intervals into the stitches to
form a warm lining inside the mitt.
Thrumming became more
popular during the industrial revolution when factory workers would
take the discarded ends from woollen mills and incorporated them into
their home knits.
